Shannon Recognized as a Top Performing Hospitals for Treatment of Heart Attack Patients

Shannon has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain — MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2022. Shannon is one of only 240 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor. The award recognizes Shannon’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that Shannon has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

To receive the Chest Pain — MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award, Shannon has demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain — MI Registry for two consecutive years (2020 and 2021) and performed at the highest level for specific performance measures.

Shannon Sporting Clay Shoot Raises Thousands

The 22nd Annual Shannon Sporting Clay Shoot raised more than $120,000 to benefit several patient care programs at Shannon including regional EMS Support through Shannon AirMed 1, the Oncology Angel Fund, Patient Benevolence Fund, Cardiac Care Fund, Shannon Care Coordination program and the Nurse Education Fund. More than 175,000 lives in the Concho Valley will be touched through the continued support of so many local businesses and individuals.

New Training Programs Help to Fill Open Positions

Shannon has started two new programs to help fill gaps and reduce the time to hire for open positions in clinical services.

Students who are nearing graduation from the Howard College Radiology and Respiratory Therapy programs can begin an early internship at Shannon. The interns fill open positions and complete their training during the intern period. Once they graduate and receive their license, they will already be trained and be able to step quickly and seamlessly into a licensed position and take a full schedule.

Shannon has also created an in-house certified nursing assistant (CNA) training program. It is a five-week course open to prospective employees as well as current staff who want to become certified to move into a CNA position. This new program is expected to start this summer with ten students.

Epic Connect Program Expands EHR Connectivity

Shannon has launched “Epic Connect” to provide access to the gold standard in electronic medical records systems to independent providers and healthcare organizations across the region.

It would be cost-prohibitive for these organizations to partner with Epic individually. Shannon is able to extend its relationship with Epic to provide these smaller healthcare entities with the many benefits Epic offers providers and patients, including better coordination of care as patients transition between healthcare organizations within the same community.

Shannon currently has a signed contract with La Esperanza Clinic (FQHC) in San Angelo with an anticipated go-live date in the fourth quarter and has interest from other rural hospitals and entities in the region.
