Shannon Medical Center has completed the process to acquire the assets of San Angelo Community Medical Center. Saturday, October 24 will be the first day of operation as an integrated entity. San Angelo Community Medical Center and Community Medical Associates will become the new Shannon South Campus. They will now operate as Shannon South and Shannon Clinic South.

“This is not only an opportunity to combine the capabilities and expertise of both organizations, but it also ensures we have a strong, viable and independent hospital system capable of providing the best care at the lowest cost for patients,” said Len P. Mertz, managing trustee of Shannon West Texas Memorial Hospital.

All Community Medical Center and Community Medical Associates providers and staff will become part of Shannon on October 24. Patient care at all sites will proceed as normal, and patients may still receive care from their current providers. In addition, Shannon will be honoring all existing insurance plans that previously did not include Shannon as an “in-network” provider to expand access to care for more patients. Patients should not expect any interruption in coverage.

“We have been working diligently to prepare for the first day of our shared operation, focusing on making it a seamless transition for the patients,” said Shane Plymell, President and CEO at Shannon. “We look forward to welcoming and serving patients at the new Shannon South Campus.”

One immediate benefit patients will see is that Shannon will introduce its Epic Medical Record System in the CMA offices starting October 24. Previous patient records will still be available and patients will also have access to the Shannon MyChart Patient Portal to view their health information.

More information about Shannon’s vision for the integrated facilities and frequently asked questions regarding patient services are available at CareforSanAngelo.com. Patients may also call a dedicated “Shannon Welcome Line” with any questions regarding the transition. This service is available Monday-Friday from 9 am to 5 pm by calling 325-481-2100
